Return to Dovedale. - 5th June 2009

I was back on the wonderful River Dove at Dovedale as a guest, thanks to Kev and Leek and District FFA. The day looked promising with no rain forecast until late in the day, a meet at Milldale and then it was off to the river. A stark contrast from the last time I was here back in November, a warm June day greeted us and the possibility of a few Mayfly.

Kev was into his first fish of the day before I had even tied on my fly, falling to a Mayfly pattern. Fishing through the likely looking runs and riffles a few Mayfly were present but I couldn't temp anything. Walking along this majestic river spotting rising fish as we went, I eventually broke my duck for the day as a small Trout was tempted by a Mayfly pattern albeit from Kevs Fly Box !....Cheers!.

I had got my eye in and was looking forward to tempting a few more Trout, I managed to get into my best trout of the day in the early afternoon again to the Mayfly, We were both finding the fishing a challenge as the fish were inspecting the Fly with great detail in many of the pools and refusing to take. Ilam Rock pool saw the most frustration with rising fish refusing our flies and taking the natural with ease.

Kevs local knowlege of this river saw his tally for the day move into double figures and unfortunatly lost a few good fish in the process. I was happy with the several fish I caught and a great day out on my return to the Dove. A different ball game alltogether than the Dee or Severn that I am used to fishing, but a great challenge and wonderfull surroundings of Dovedale.

Many Thanks Kev once again for such a great Day !

Until Next Time..........................Tight Lines
