Welcome to the Phil Ratcliffe Fly Fishing Blog
I am a fly fishing nut and enjoy all aspects of the sport. My passion is fishing the Rivers both here in the UK and further afield.
I have put this blog together to keep alive some of the memories and to share tactics with fellow anglers.

My Story
Phil has been fly fishing for more than forty years, with a deep-rooted passion for rivers and their classic quarry — grayling, trout, and salmon. His skills extend across all areas of the sport, from casting to carp and pike on the fly, and even saltwater adventures both in the UK and abroad.
Based in Cheshire, Phil represents a new generation of dedicated fly-fishing instructors. He holds the prestigious APGAI (Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructor) qualification in both single- and double-handed disciplines with The Game Angling Instructors Association, as well as the Masters (MCI) and Two-Handed Masters (THMCI) certifications from Fly Fishers International (FFI). He is also an Accredited Mentor & Assessor with both organisations — credentials that demonstrate his exceptional skill and commitment to the craft.
Phil’s international reputation and expertise have earned him endorsements from some of the industry’s leading brands, including Sage, Rio, and Redington, where he serves as an International Pro Guide. His many years of on-water experience, combined with his technical mastery, make him an outstanding ambassador for modern fly fishing. Fulling Mill are also proud to have Phil as a dedicated Pro Team Ambassador— his passion, professionalism, and deep knowledge of the sport make him a valued member of the Fulling Mill community.
This passion combined with his teaching & angling skills is why Phil can offer you the best in Professional Fly Fishing tuition and as a result will continue to develop his own skills within the Game Angling Instructors Association (GAIA) & Fly Fishers International (FFI).
